The twin Scuderia Playteam Sarafree Maseratis have set the pace in the opening 80-minute free practice session at Nogaro, with joint series leaders Andrea Piccini and Andrea Bertolini sending out an early warning of their title intent.

Though the Italian pairing were marginally slower than team-mates Alessandro Pier Guidi and Giambattista Giannoccaro, they were nevertheless well clear of key rival Thomas Biagi. Christophe Bouchut, on a track he knows well, was third-fastest in the All-Inkl Lamborghini Murciélago he shares with Stefan Mücke, followed by Brno winner and Biagi and Michael Bartels' Vitaphone Maserati team-mates Christian Montanari and Miguel Ramos.

The fastest car in GT2 and an excellent eighth-quickest overall was the #51 AF Corse Motorola Ferrari of Gianmaria Bruni and Stéphane Ortelli, followed by the #63 Scuderia Ecosse machine of Andrew Kirkaldy and Rob Bell.

The Gillet Vertigo led G2, while the #16 JMB Maserati of Ben Aucott and Stéphane Daoudi was the fastest Citation Cup car.
