Karl Wendlinger and Ryan Sharp have taken victory in the final race of the
FIA GT Championship season at Zolder – although victory for the Jetalliance duo wasn't enough to stop Thomas Biagi securing the 2007 title.
Wendlinger and Sharp converted pole into victory for the third time this year, while the PK Carsport Corvette of Bert Longin and Anthony Kumpen finished second. Third for Biagi though in the #1 Maserati he shares with Michael Bartels was enough to give the Italian the title.
"This is a special result for me,” he said, “as for an Italian driver I have now won two championships - one with a Ferrari in 2003, and now with a Maserati."
The win propelled Wendlinger and Sharp up into joint second in the drivers classification, with Hezemans and Deletraz third.
As for GT2, Dirk Müller and Toni Vilander claimed the title in style, starting from pole position and winning the title in their AF Corse Motorola Ferrari 430 GT2. The two drivers, both in their first full season in the FIA GT Championship, finished ahead of the #74 Ebimotors Porsche of Zani and Pompidou - claiming their first podium of the season - and the #59 Advanced Engineering Ferrari of Rui Aguas and Maurizio Mediani.
The other GT2 title contenders, the #97 BMS Porsche and the #51 AF Corse Motorola
Ferrari, finished in fourth and fifth places respectively, with Ortelli and Bruni retaining second in the GT2 drivers classification, while Collard and Malucelli finished third.
