GT outfit to take on challenge of new Asian series.

FIA GT Championship runners Phoenix Racing has confirmed that it will take part in the inaugural Speedcar Series, which kicks off in Dubai this weekend.

The team, which is also well known for its exploits in the DTM, will run a single car in the series for Uwe Alzen, whose most recent success came in the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland last season.

“This is a great opportunity for me and for Phoenix Racing to be a part of Speedcar that we see as having enormous potential," he said. "We are also very excited about breaking out of Europe and racing in the Middle East and Asia.”

Benoit Lamonerie, general manager of Speedcar Series, extended his welcome to the team admitting that he was pleased to have another car added to the grid.

"Phoenix Racing and Uwe Alzen make a valuable addition to our fleet of drivers," he said. "The variety of talent that Speedcar Series showcases will make for an interesting season and give people a taste of real motorsports action."
