ProSpeed Competition has announced that it will undertake a full international season in 2008, with one car entered in the
FIA GT championship and two cars planned for the FIA GT3 European Championship.
ProSpeed entered a number of rounds in 2007, finishing the season in Zolder with a Porsche entered for Marc Lieb and Marc Basseng and will run an all-Finnish driver line-up in the GT2 class this season.
“We have signed the deal with Markus Palttala and Mikael Forsten,” team owner Rudi Penders explained. “We will enter a new Porsche 997 RSR (2008 spec) for the two quick Finns in the GT2 category. Franz Lamot and I will drive in the FIA GT3 European championship with a brand new Porsche 997 FIA GT3. The driver line-up for the second GT3 car is to be confirmed.”
Palttala has driven in the FIA GT Championship on a number of occasions, most frequently in the 24-hour race at Spa, but also during a number of rounds in 2002 with the PSI Porsche bi-turbo.
“It's good to be back in the FIA GT," he said. "I'm happy to have signed with Prospeed and have Mikael as my co-pilot. The team is rather new, but it's run by good guys with loads of experience in top-level racing. We are proud to work closely together with our partners Porsche and Michelin.
“I know that the GT2 class is extremely tough, next year maybe tougher than ever, and we will be the underdogs against a strong group of Ferraris, but we are very motivated to take that challenge and fight for it. It's true that Mikael is fairly inexperienced on this level, but he has already shown that he is a quick and talented driver with a professional approach on racing and I'm confident we will form a strong line-up. I can't wait to start testing the new car and to see where we are!”
