SRT has revealed that Christophe Bouchut and Xavier Maassen will share driving duties in its Corvette C6.R for the 2008
FIA GT Championship season.
The team, which will move up from the Citation Cup into a full GT1 programme, announced last week that it had secured a C6.R for the season ahead and will now have triple champion Bouchut and former Renault World Series runner Maassen behind the wheel in a strong-looking driver line-up.
"I want to prove that we can hold our own at this level, but I'm thoroughly conscious of the high level of the competition we're up against," team boss Patrick Selleslagh said. "But with these drivers, a brand new Corvette C6.R and an experienced team we're aiming at a few highlights and podium places. Anyhow I'm 200 per cent motivated to make the most of this new step to the top.
"I want to thank my partners, Michelin and Pratt & Miller on the one hand and my drivers on the other for their trust and truly hope that 2008 turns out to be a fabulous sporting year."
Bouchut has competed for SRT in the past, with a number of podium finishes in the French FFSA GT Series and a victory in Belcar, but team-mate Maassen will be embarking on a career change after moving away from single-seaters into GT competition.
"As a young driver you have to remain realistic and everyone knows that it is very difficult to work on up to
F1," he said. "So you start looking for alternatives, and one of these reputable alternatives is endurance racing, more specifically the FIA GT. You then come across a package that includes a Corvette, SRT and Christophe Bouchut, and you realise that this is the choice in which to excel and give you career a new orientation."
Meanwhile the C5R that the team used during the 2007 season will also continue to race in the FIA GT series with the AT-Racing Gmbh squad.
Belarus-born businessman Alexander Talkanitsa will share driving duties alongside Wolfgang Kaufmann, with the car running in the Citation Cup with support from the Renauer Motorsport team,
