Trackspeed is set to kick-start a busy campaign in the FIA GT Championship next weekend at Silverstone as it prepares to run in both the full series and the FIA GT3 European Championship during the 2008 season.

The team will field a Porsche 997 GT2 RSR in the GT2 class of the series while also running two cars in the GT3 series – with David Ashburn and Richard Williams running in both championships.

The pair are also contesting the British GT Championship in the new 2008-spec Porsche 997 GT3 Cup and made a solid start to the season at Oulton Park last month and Williams admitted that making the step up to the FIA series was an exciting move for the team.

“We have now finalised our tyre contract for the FIA GT Championship,” he said, “and we are really excited to be working Pirelli. We'll be the only Porsche on Pirelli tyres, and it's looking good. We will have a steep learning curve, but I'm looking forward to it. Having seen the timetable, I'm beginning to wonder when we'll find time to breathe between qualifying and the races”

“We hope to be competitive in the FIA GT3 European Championship, with the new Porsche, as the car seems to be very competitive and should be great round Silverstone. In GT2, we'll have a steep hill to climb, especially as we have had no running. But we hope to give a good account of ourselves.

“One thing that will help is that we are both classified as non-professionals, so we won't have the 35kg that the professional drivers have. But it's a bit of a leap into the unknown, with both the Championship and Pirelli. We'll have to be on our toes and make sure we're in the right place at the right time.

“The level in GT2 is incredible this year; we plan to gain experience and get to grips with it, to be ready for the future. There's a lot to do, but we're up for it.”
