Christian Montanari admits he can't wait for the new
FIA GT Championship season to start this weekend as he prepares to make his debut with the AF Corse team.
The San Marino ace, who finished fourth in the GT1 standings last season alongside Miguel Ramos, will line up alongside 2007 champion Thomas Biagi in a GT2 Ferrari 430 as AF Corse seeks to defend the class titles it secured last year with Dirk Muller and Toni Vilander.
"I can't wait to start," Montanari admitted. "I am ready and I feel in form, but am also calm because I know I am working with a group truly at the top.
"Racing with AF Corse - the team champions - with
Ferrari, Michelin and Thomas, twice world champion, is great."
Montanari admitted he was buoyed by the performance of the team during pre-season testing at Monza on the annual media day and said he was confident of a solid result on a challenging
Silverstone circuit.
"The official Monza test was very positive, with good feedback without having tried to set a quick time," he said. "We worked well on the car, and I think I adapted well to the new method of work. I am also very pleased that there is collaboration, within the teams, between the two crews.
"Regarding the beginning of the championship, Silverstone is a very nice, challenging circuit. The weather conditions could make the difference, typically ranging from one thing to another."
