CR Scuderia will kickstart its international campaign this weekend when the new
FIA GT Championship season gets underway at
Silverstone.
Aside from its duties in the British GT and Formula Renault UK Championship, the team will run a pair of
Ferrari 430s in the GT2 class of the FIA series where it will go up against top-line entries from the likes of AF Corse and Prospeed.
Team principal Chris Niarchos will be reunited with Tim Mullen – the man he partnered to the 2006 British GT title – in the #55 Ferrari and while he admits that competition will be tough, Niarchos said he was ready for the challenge.
"It seems like years since we drove the cars," Niarchos said. "The competition is incredibly difficult in FIA GT this year; the quality of the field is the highest ever. As a driver I am still on a very steep learning curve but I love this level of competition as it forces me to raise my game. Tim and I need to go out there this weekend and have a very steady race."
The sister car will be shared by Andrew Kirkaldy and Rob Bell, the latter coming into the weekend after making a winning start to his Le Mans Series campaign at Barcelona.
Having taken pole position for the race last season, Kirkaldy will hope to repeat the feat this time around and he said it was nice to be back behind the wheel after a busy winter putting the whole CRS programme together.
"I'm very excited to be going racing again," he said. "I have had my busiest winter ever as we have had so much to do setting up the new team. All of my team management duties take a back seat during the FIA GT weekends so that I can concentrate on driving and extracting the best out of the car."
