Bradley Ellis will rekindle his partnership with Alex Mortimer for the rest of the 2008 season after the pair agreed terms to complete the
FIA GT3 campaign with Matech Racing's Ford GT
Ellis enjoyed a promising first outing with team and car in the championship's opening rounds at Silverstone last month, and now resumes the partnership with Mortimer that saw the pair take the 2007 Avon Tyres British GT crown. Both competed individually in select GT3 rounds last season, and have not raced together since the final nail-biting round of the British season at Rockingham last September, but will draw on two seasons of partnership for the next round of the FIA series at Monza next weekend [17-18 May].
“It's great to resurrect our championship-winning partnership," Ellis enthused, "Alex and I have raced together for over two years; we know how each other drives and how to use that to our advantage in race conditions. We've joined a strong team and we'll work in partnership with them to develop the Ford GT and get ourselves to the front of the field.”
Although Ellis clinched vital championship points in the opening FIA GT3 rounds at
Silverstone, Mortimer joins the title fight two races adrift, making the Monza objective clear. But, with Mortimer yet to run in the Ford GT, Ellis' expectations remain realistic.
“Due to some technical gremlins at Silverstone, qualifying was the first opportunity I had to get a good run in the car, but Alex is yet to drive the Ford GT," he admitted.
"His first opportunity will be on the Monza practice days, when we will be aiming to get ourselves settled in to both the car and racing together again. However, I'm sure everything will fall together smoothly to let us focus on getting Alex in to the championship fight and on scoring as many points as possible.”
