Having secured a podium finish in the opening round of the
FIA GT Championship at
Silverstone, Gigawave Motorsport will aim to continue its solid start to the new season in the second round of the campaign this weekend at Monza.
In challenging conditions at the British circuit, Allan Simonsen and Philipp Peter took a fine third place finish in the Aston Martin DBR9, leading for a while before Peter lost out in the closing stages after a Safety Car period bunched up the field.
With confidence high as a result of the podium, the team now heads to Italy in optimistic mood – having already received a boost during pre-season testing at the grand prix venue when the DBR9 was the second quickest car during a two-day group test.
“We've not made many tweaks to the car since Silverstone,” team manager Steve Hagger said. “The set-up is working so well that we feel it would be a mistake to introduce any dramatic changes. We know the DBR9 is competitive at Monza. We just have to make sure it all comes together on the day.
“We can't sit back on our laurels, as Silverstone was just the start of what is going to be a very long and tough season. Coming third in our first full race was a huge boost to morale but our drivers, Allan Simonsen and Philipp Peter, will have their work cut out at Monza.”
