The Scuderia Ecosse squad bounced back to form with a third-place finish in round two of the
FIA GT Championship at Monza, the highest-placed Pirelli-shod team in a hard-fought GT2 class.
The result, the first points of the season for the team, came courtesy of a slice of luck, fourth becoming third when the class-leading Prospeed Competition Porsche was excluded for a pit-lane infringement, but also provided just rewards for a fighting display after Ecosse's own pit-lane problems.
The sun came out literally minutes before the start of the race, sparking a frenzy of last-minute set-up changes on the grid, but Fabio Babini used the first stint to set about catching the leaders, before handing the car over to Jamie Davies having moved into an excellent second place after 26 laps.
The Italian's efforts appeared to have been in vain, however, as the team lost some time during the stop thanks to a faulty fuel filler valve, but Davies charged equally hard as he attempted to regain track position. The Briton duly set the Ecosse team's fastest lap before handing back to Babini for the final push to the chequered flag.
The car was set up perfectly for the conditions considering we did not know if it was going to be a wet or dry race," Davies noted, "The car was extremely fast and it had excellent balance. The Pirelli tyres got better and better with each lap and gave me a consistent feeling during the race. It is a good result for the team.
"It has been a very good weekend, and the team has worked very hard on the set-up of the car," Babini echoed, "The Pirelli tyres gave me the confidence I needed to bring home the car in third position, and I am confident that we can build on this result for our next race.
Team principal Stewart Roden admitted that the result could have been better had it not been for the problem in the pits and uncertainty over the weather.
