Phoenix Racing will start from pole position for the third round of the
FIA GT Championship after Marcel Fassler posted the quickest time during qualifying at the Italian circuit.
The Swiss driver, showing no ill-effects of his accident during last weekend's Le Mans 24 Hours, posted a quickest time of 1m 11.602s late on in the qualifying session to secure top spot by two-tenths of a second from the Maserati of Andrea Bertolini, with Karl Wendlinger slotting into third place for Jetalliance Racing in the first of the Aston Martin DBR9s.
Alex Negrao, in the second of the Vitaphone Racing Maseratis secured the fourth quickest time, with Christophe Bouchut and Fabrizio Gollin rounding out the top six – ensuring that all three Corvette C6.Rs will line-up on the front three rows of the grid.
Gianmaria Bruni secured pole position in the GT2 class for AF Corse ahead of the Prospeed Porsche of Emmanuel Collard, with the top three completed Thomas Biagi's
Ferrari.
Only one G2 runner will compete in the race this weekend, with the Belgian Racing Gillet Vertigo lining up 26th on the grid.
