Jamie Davies and Fabio Babini enjoyed one of their strongest performances of the
FIA GT Championship season at Adria to give Scuderia Ecosse a solid fourth place finish in Italy.
Having made aggressive set-up changes to the
Ferrari 430 and with a calculated race strategy in place, the pair performed strongly in the first night race of the campaign to match their result from the second round of the campaign at Monza.
Babini drove the first 37-lap stint in scorching evening temperatures, setting a host of quick lap times to keep the team in touch with the closely matched GT2 leaders. He handed over the car in fifth place with Davies maintaining position before handing the car back to Babini for the run to the flag – where he finished in fourth.
"It was a very good result to start from ninth and finish fourth," Davies said. "The team worked like clockwork and the pit stops were superb. The Pirelli tyres excelled in the Adria heat, performing consistently during my stint and the balance with the car got better as the race went on. I am hopeful we can take this forward to Oschersleben and keep the results coming."
Team principal Stewart Roden was also delighted with the performance.
"Jamie, Fabio and the whole team did a superb job - the pit stops were excellent and our strategy worked well," he said. "It was unfortunate that we were badly held up in the first stint, ultimately costing us a podium position.
"We have worked very hard with Pirelli to develop new tyres this season and they are working extremely well, thanks to the dedication of their technicians. With Oschersleben a similar circuit to Adria I am confident that we will be on the podium."
The team also used the Adria weekend to confirm the signing of Ferdinando Monfardini for the Spa 24 Hours, with the Italian partnering Babini and Davies for the round the clock event at the famed Belgian circuit.
