Having started from pole position, Marcel Fassler and Jean-Denis Deletraz took victory in the opening race of the
FIA GT Championship weekend in Bucharest.
The Phoenix Racing duo led from the front in the Corvette C6.R to lead home the sister car of Mike Hezemans and Fabrizio Gollin by less than a second to secure a lock-out on the grid for the team for the second race of the weekend.
The Vitaphone Maserati of Andrea Bertolini and Michael Bartels took the final place on the podium with the second MC12 of Miguel Ramos and Alex Negrao fourth. The SRT Corvette and the Peka Racing Saleen completed the top six, while the front-row starting Jetalliance Aston Martin failed to even take the start with the team withdrawing both of its cars from the weekend for safety reasons.
In GT2, Andrew Kirkaldy and Rob Bell took the win for CR Scuderia having come out on top of a three-way
Ferrari battle with the leading AF Corse car of Toni Vilander and Gimmi Bruni and the Scuderia Ecosse car of Jamie Davies and Fabio Babini. The AF Corse car would eventually take second with Richard Westbrook and Manu Collard taking third for Prospeed after the Scuderia Ecosse machine spun late on.
The lone G2 car of the Belgian Racing team took the flag in 19th place.
