After completing three rounds in three weeks, the World Series by Renault Championship is returning from a month long summer break with the standings finely poised as the drivers and teams head towards British shores and Donington Park.

Indeed, just one point cover the top three drivers, currently led by Nurburgring winner Alvaro Parente and Andy Soucek, both equal on 73 points, while Pastor Maldonado is just a further point back in third place as the trio move away from the field to claim the title fight as being between themselves.

With six races to go and a maximum of 102 points up for grabs, there is still much to play for, but consistency has been the key for Parente, Soucek and Maldonado, even if it is the third of those three drivers that has won more than two races this season.

However, going to Donington, one driver stands head and shoulders above the rest when it comes to favourites as Parente is returning to the circuit where he won on the way to the British Formula Three Championship, where as Soucek hasn’t competed there, while Maldonado could only manage a best of seventh last season.

Despite carrying an injured wrist since Spa, Andy Soucek was nonetheless the driver who scored the most points in the three summer meetings. Armed with unshakeable confidence, the Spaniard is ready for the final struggle.

While he has yet to win a race, Borja Garcia is still very much in the title race, only six points adrift, although the prospects for Eric Salignon, on the other hand, appear to be dwindling as the season progresses. The Frenchman will even need to keep an eye on several drivers who are aiming to break into the championship top five.

They include Alx Danielsson, who returned to race form at the Nürburgring with a podium finish, while World Series rookie McIntosh is gradually beginning to hit his stride, the Canadian returning to a circuit he knows well from his British Formula Renault days.
