Timo Glock is being touted as one of the hot favourites for the GP2 crown this year, after a switch of teams midway through 2006 really saw his season come alive. Here the young German tells us about his hopes for the forthcoming campaign…
Q:
Timo, your change of team in GP2 last season really seemed to make your year, didn’t it?
Timo Glock:
Yes. I think it was the right move at the right time, because otherwise maybe I wouldn’t be here now. We had a good second half of the GP2 season – it was quite a strong performance – and I got the chance with
BMW to take the test-driver job, which I’m very happy about. I think that shows I did the right thing during the two test days.
Q:
Do you think if you had started the GP2 season with iSport like you finished it, you might have had a chance of fighting for the title?
TG:
It’s easy to say but you never know how things would have gone if I had started with iSport. They definitely had a strong performance right from the beginning of the season. They developed the car as well and I developed it for my driving style, especially after
Silverstone. You never know. I don’t want to say anything about where I may have ended up had I started with iSport. The beginning of the season was not the perfect start for us. The results in the second half of the season are what we can talk about.
Q:
You are sticking with iSport in GP2 in 2007. What do you think you can achieve over the year? What are your hopes and expectations?
TG:
I think we’ve got a pretty strong team. My team-mate Andreas Zuber is doing a good job – he was pretty quick in the first test. I think we are right on it and that it should be possible to compete against ART and fight for the championship.
Q:
Aside from GP2, you will be testing for BMW-Sauber in
Formula One along the way too. How excited are you about that?
TG:
Hopefully I will come out of every test having done a 100 per cent job, concentrating on developing the car for Nick (Heidfeld) and Robert (Kubica) and putting them in the best position possible to be successful during race weekends.
Q:
So how big an opportunity for you is this?
