Monaco 2007: Maldonado doubles up.

Saturday, 26th May 2007

Pastor Maldonado took an emphatic race victory in the annual GP2 Series race in Monaco, repeating his World Series by Renault win at the same venue one year ago.

Second place was another improvement on early results for Pantano and Campos and, while the Italian was disappointed not to have his team its first win in GP2, he said that he would settle for second

"I’m happy only when I’m first but, after the results of the first few races, and the bad luck we had, I think that we are second place in Monte Carlo – that’s not bad," he said, "I just decided to keep second place and not take risks."

Behind Glock, Filippi was the next man across the line, followed by a disappointed di Grassi. Petrov, Buemi and Pizzonia were all in happier frame of mind, having recorded their first GP2 points, while Xandi Negrao claimed the point for fastest lap on his last time around.
