We won’t know who’s driving at the next round in Germany this coming weekend until Ernesto undergoes his medical. They didn’t let him come to
Silverstone, which was a bit strange seeing as
Robert Kubica was able to fly directly from Montreal to Indianapolis following his accident in the Canadian Grand Prix. In Ernesto’s case he wasn’t allowed to fly from Barcelona to Silverstone to be with the team, and that got me a little bit worried.
He seems to be fine, though, and he’ll certainly be ok in the long run. We have to see if he’ll be able to be at the Nürburgring with us; we’re counting on that. If not we have a contingency plan involving a few drivers, including Narain Karthikeyan who has a strong interest in racing with us. He’s certainly very fast so that’s one possibility, and then we have a couple of other drivers who have contacted us as well, so we are keeping all our options open but at the moment our deal is with Ernesto. We’re just waiting for the go-ahead from the doctors to see if he can get back in the car.
Javi likes the Nürburgring; it’s his sort of track and he did quite well there last year. The set-up is quite similar to the one we used in Barcelona which worked quite well, so hopefully we should be back to ‘normal’ again.
I’ll keep you posted as to how we get on!
Alfonso
