After that I struggled with the brakes, especially in the first part of the race. We had new brakes on the car, but after a while I got used to them and was able to push harder and overtake people. My overtaking manoeuvres were pretty successful, so I was happy with that. Obviously we had the safety car situation because of the accident with Ernesto Viso too, and then we had quite a fumbled pit-stop as well but either way the end result was a good one.
The sprint race should have been a lot better. The car was really working well on the Sunday and I had very good pace, but unfortunately the light rain shower that fell beforehand left the kerbs wet and tricky and I made a small mistake while I was running second which cost me another very good points finish. Still, I made a few positions back up again through overtaking; when you have a very good car you can run much closer to the driver in front and try to force them into making a mistake.
After that we moved on to
Silverstone, which didn’t go to plan at all. It was a shame because the car had been quite good during the practice session. Obviously qualifying makes a big difference to how your race set-up is going to be, especially as you have two types of tyre to play with, but I missed the entire session because I made a mistake and from then on it was just a difficult weekend.
When you start last it’s really hard to fight your way back. Some circuits allow for it, some don’t; maybe if it had been in Bahrain or Spa or Monza I would have been able to go further, but Silverstone is not an easy track to overtake on. I still think I did pretty well to pass about eight cars on the first lap and another on the second, but there’s only so much you can do. I was expecting more from a circuit I know very well, but everyone makes mistakes and that was mine.
