Crash.net preview: Istanbul

Wednesday, 22nd August 2007

Single point separates top two as action resumes in Turkey.

Trident Racing’s Maldonado has succumbed to a fractured collarbone sustained in training and will be replaced by Ricardo Risatti, who tested impressively for a number of GP2 teams over the winter period - a change probably finding favour with some of his rivals, not least Zuber, who had a run-in with the Venezuelan in Hungary. Over at BCN Competicion, meanwhile, Markus Niemela’s dislocated shoulder - suffered in the Hungaroring feature - could see him out for several weeks, so the Spanish squad has called in fellow Finn Henri Karjalainen as his replacement.

Racing Engineering apparently attempted to replace Hungaroring non-qualifier Marcos Martinez with reigning World Series by Renault champion Alx Danielsson, but had already used up its allocation of changes on the sister car to race winner Villa, while BCN will continue with an unchanged partnership of Andy Soucek and Christian Bakkerud, despite suggestions that the Dane's back problem was persisting after treatment.
