Carroll had to battle for third place in the race though from a determined Glock, incensed at his pit stop error and steaming his way back into contention, setting a lap over a second quicker than anyone else around him. Only Nicolas Lapierre would beat that marker to gain the extra point for fastest lap.
Despite Glock's best attempts though, he was unable to find a way past Carroll and after a few physical moments with the Northern Irishman, decided to protect his five points by settling for fourth. Even so, after making the same mistake in Spain earlier this year, Glock will be desperately disappointed to miss out again.
Elsewhere, Garcia was a strong fifth, reviving memories of the podium he managed there back in 2005, the Durango driver just ahead of
Kazuki Nakajima in the best of the DAMS entries. Rounding out the points were Negrao, who also just managed to make the late pit stop work for him, and, for the first time this season, Karun Chandhok, who fought off Ho-Pin Tung for the final point and also pole position for the sprint race.
Outside the points and looking for a good result in the sprint race, Tung was ninth, ahead of Bruno Senna, Rodriguez, Javier Villa and Marcos Martinez. Fellow newcomers Risatti and Karjalainen endured mixed fortunes, the former finishing 16th and the latter retiring after 15 laps.
