Indeed, the stewards had a busy day dishing out penalties, adding the second ART driver of Sebastien Buemi to their list when he tapped Jason Tahinci into a spin and also managed to collect Adrian Zaugg in the process, wrecking all three drivers' races.
Glock took the win, almost ten seconds up on Negrao, who smashed his previous career best result of fifth place with second, the Brazilian driver also securing the second straight podium of the season for the Minardi Piquet Sports team.
He held off Carroll to the line, the Northern Irishman once again producing a solid piece of driving to make his presence felt on the podium for the fifth time in ten races, a result that puts the returnee him just three points behind third in the standings, such has been his run of form.
Off the podium, Borja Garcia raised a few smiles for Durango after Chandhok's elimination with his second points finish of the weekend in fourth, just ahead of Vitaly Petrov, who produced another good drive to finish fifth from 17th on the grid.
The sixth and final point was claimed by Bruno Senna, bringing some happiness on what has been another tough weekend for both the Brazilian and the Arden International team. Senna was lucky though to claim that point as it went at the expense of Luca Filippi, who produced the drive of the race to carve his way up from 25th on the grid to be running sixth in the closing stages. However, while he was quicker than Petrov ahead, he could find his way past the Russian and ultimately made a mistake that prompted Senna back through into the points, a position he would hold to the finish, much to Filippi's frustration.
Andreas Zuber meanwhile won the additional marker for fastest lap having earlier stalled on the grid.
In the points standings, Glock now leads di Grassi again by two points following only the second race this year in which the Brazilian has failed to feature in the top six. They however are a clear 29 points up on Filippi though in third place, almost confirming that, with six races remaining, the title will come down to one of these two drivers.
