Q&A: Jaime Melo.

New Euro F3000 champion Jaime Melo Jr joined the Telefonica World Series at Curitiba

Q&A: Jaime Melo.

Saturday, 28th December 2002

Jaime Melo won the European F3000 championship this year and in an exclusive interview with Crash.net Brazil admits he is unlikely to return to the FIA-F3000 championship next year, preferring instead a drive in either the Telefonica World Series or a US drive, as he pursues his F1 dream.

Q: For those that don’t know you well, could you summarise your racing career so far?

Outside of the World Series, I’m negotiating with just about everyone in the top championships around the world – we’ll see what happens.

Q: Are you hoping for an F1 drive next season?

Jaime Melo: For sure that is my dream, my objective, but it’s not easy to achieve and at this moment in time will be very difficult. I think my best chance to eventually reach F1 will be to work with a good team - in whatever I do - produce good performances and then hopefully I’ll get noticed.

Q: If you don’t get an F1 offer [for 2003] would you consider racing in the United States?

Jaime Melo: Yes, I think it’s definitely worth thinking about. America is a good place to race. It all depends what can be arranged, at the moment I’m speaking to people in a lot of categories, including CART. We’ll see what happens.
