iSport International’s
Scott Speed is just three points behind Rosberg, but suffered his reverse at Magny-Cours. A couple of points finishes, including a return to the podium at
Silverstone, has kept him in the mix, but the American will be looking to score big this weekend.
Carroll lies seven points behind Speed, while 'Gimmi' Bruni, the only man other than Kovalainen and Rosberg to have scored points at every round, is fifth for Coloni Motorsport. The Italian is another to have won this year, but has not been able to match Kovalainen's consistency in scoring in both races at each event, and struggled to boost his tally at both Magny-Cours - where he relied on bonus points for fastest lap.
DAMS’ Jose Maria Lopez lies sixth overall, ahead of the consistent yet quiet Neel Jani and inconsistent Alex Prémat. Lopez suffered at Silverstone, where Premat came to the fore in race one, climbing from a penalised 14th on the grid to third at the flag. Jani, meanwhile, continues to rack up the points, but in small increments rather than big gains.
In the battle for the teams’ championship, Arden International maintains its grasp on the top of the table, but by an ever decreasing margin as ART Grand Prix move onto 68 points, just eight behind Arden’s 76. Super Nova International finds itself in third place on 44, one point ahead of iSport International, with Coloni Motorsport fifth and DAMS sixth.
While the driver line-up remains the same this weekend, the teams have three new optional components to use on their cars, as the Series' development programme continues apace.
