After a somewhat stuttered career so far, Karun Chandhok looks to be finally impressing the right people with his performance in the first year of GP2 Series racing, a season that has revealed plenty of promise from the Indian driver.
Chandhok, a former British Formula 3 driver, struggled to initially make a name for himself in the World Series by Renault in 2004 (when it was known as the Nissan series) and 2005, but revived his hopes with a title winning performance in the inaugural Formula Renault V6 Asia Championship last year, most notably ahead of Matt Halliday.
It was enough to prompt Durango Corse to offer him a test just before the start of the season, Chandhok going on to impress the team enough to offer him a drive with them.
Since then, Chandhok has improved as the season has worn on, culminating in his first points finish at Turkey before he produced a double points haul last time out at Monza.
With only two rounds remaining, Chandhok is already labelling his first season in GP2 a success, claiming that he has been just as quick as his highly rated team-mate Borja Garcia, but has ultimately been let down by a series of problems in qualifying.
“The deal happened very late, so it was very difficult to get a seat,” he told

“Other than that, we have had some good races and we have had some bad races but I think I have managed to show enough potential to take a lot of positives out of this season. I have been close to my highly-rated team-mate Garcia and I have matched him every weekend even though it is his second season in GP2. It has been a positive year.”
