Frenchman remains the man to beat in Dubai.

Romain Grosjean picked up from where he had left off on the second day of testing ahead of the new GP2 Asia Series in Dubai, taking a further six tenths of a second off his pace-setting time from day one.

The French Renault F1 test-driver was second-fastest in the morning session behind new outfit Qi.Meritus Mahara's Luca Filippi, but he leapfrogged the Italian veteran in the afternoon to once again end proceedings on top at the wheel of his ART Grand Prix machine.

Though his morning time would remain unbeaten day-long, Filippi would ultimately fall back down to seventh place at the close of play in the afternoon, as day one morning star Adrian Valles shot back to prominence with a lap time just two tenths adrift of Grosjean to steal P2.

Bruno Senna eventually wound up third for defending GP2 champions iSport International, with team-mate and fellow series sophomore Karun Chandhok fifth, as the duo found themselves separated by DAMS new boy Kamui Kobayashi.

Christian Bakkerud was an impressive sixth-quickest for Super Nova, just over a second shy of the leading pace, ahead of Filippi, the on-form Marco Bonanomi (Piquet Sports), Arden's Yelmer Buurman and Vitaly Petrov for Barwa International Campos.

Monday is set to be a day off for the teams and drivers, with testing recommencing at the Dubai Autodrome on Tuesday and Wednesday.
