ART Grand Prix driver Romain Grosjean posted the quickest time as preparations for the first round of the new GP2 Asia series continued in Dubai.
After two days of running over the course of the weekend, the 26 car field returned to the track on Tuesday at the start of a second two-day test session, with Renault
F1 tester Grosjean remaining the man to beat after pacing the weekend running.
Grosjean posted a quickest time of 1m 21.595s during the morning session – being the only person to break the 1m 22s barrier in the process – and ended up just under half a second ahead of FMSI driver Adrian Valles. Luca Filippi was third quickest, with the top six being completed by Karun Chandhok, Davide Valsecchi and Marco Bonanomi.
In the afternoon session, Chandhok moved to the head of the field for iSport International, although his quickest lap of 1m 21.894s was some three tenths off the pace shown during the morning. Things didn't go completely to plan for the Indian racer however when he went off track and crashed with half an hour of the session left to run.
Valles was second quickest once again, while Bruno Senna jumped up the order from tenth in the morning to round out the top three. Filippi, Bonanomi and Grosjean rounded out the top six, with the ART man spending the afternoon running in race set-up and practicing pit-stops.
Pre-season testing will conclude on Wednesday before the season kicks off this weekend.
