Alvaro Parente will finally make the step up to the GP2 Series, having reportedly inked a deal to contest the 2008 summer campaign alongside Christian Bakkerud at Super Nova.

The reigning World Series by Renault champion has always struggled to raise the finance to join the Formula One support series, but his success in 2007 appears to have convinced companies to fund his move to one of the leading teams in GP2. Although those sponsors have yet to be revealed, the Portuguese ace will now link up with second year driver Bakkerud under David Sears' awning.

Parente was among several drivers being considered for the seat, with Bakkerud and Spaniard Roldan Rodriguez also in the frame. According to sources in Portugal, he is expected to sign his deal today [Wednesday].

Super Nova is currently running Bakkerud alongside veteran Fairuz Fauzy in the inaugural GP2 Asia series, but former British F3 champion Parente is expected to slot in alongside the Dane when testing starts next month.
