Proving reliable straight out of the box, the new Dallaras racked up 455 laps during the three-hour opening session, with Valles heading Petrov, Villa, Senna, Zuber, Kobayashi, Hanley, Sébastien Buemi, Jérôme d'Ambrosio and Andy Soucek in the top ten.

Missing from the top of the order was Asia Series pacesetter Romain Grosjean, who finished 14th in the afternoon session having been a lowly 20th fastest in the morning. Also further down the list than expected was Karun Chandhok, who improved from 17th to 15th after lunch, and Luca Filippi who, having switched from Asia Series entrant Meritus back to ART for the test, managed only 23rd spot in both sessions.

Alvaro Parente opened his stint at Super Nova with 16th place in the later session, having managed just eight laps and no time in the first three hours of running.
