While Malonado, former lap record holder Andi Zuber and Spaniard Andy Soucek rounded out the top five in the session, Michael Conway went off at turn four at the beginning of the session and had to spend the rest of the morning in the garage while his car was fixed by the Trident team. The Briton returned after lunch to finish the later session in 17th position.
