Yelmer Buurman will replace Adam Khan in Trust Team Arden's GP2 Asia Series line-up with immediate effect, after the Briton decided to focus on his A1 Grand Prix campaign with team Pakistan.

Dutchman Buurman ran with Arden in one of the pre-season tests for the inaugural Asia Series while Khan was otherwise engaged on A1GP duty, and has since shown impressive results in recent testing for the summer series, when he will race with Arden full-time. His race debut will come in Malaysia, when GP2 Asia supports the F1 circus on the weekend of 23 March.

“When I arrived at the circuit this morning, I heard the good news that I will get the chance to become a GP2 race driver earlier than expected," Buurman said from the latest GP2 group test at Paul Ricard, "I am really happy because the three extra races in the GP2 Asia Series will give me the experience I need for the main series.

"I'd like to thank my sponsor Trust International and [Arden team boss] Christian Horner for the support and confidence [I have been shown]. Hopefully, we will get maximum points and achievable results in the next races.”

Horner, who also oversees the Red Bull Racing grand prix operation, said that there was little delay in appointing F3 graduate Buurman as Khan's replacement alongside Sebastien Buemi.

“When Yelmer was in the car for the first time in Dubai, the team was really excited," he admitted, "He was immediately very quick and competitive. When we heard that Adam Khan had chosen to focus on A1GP, it was an easy decision to give Yelmer the chance to race in the Asia Series in order to be well prepared for the GP2 main series.

"We are delighted to have such a strong driver line-up and to have the backing of Trust International, which will help us to be a frontrunner in 2008. I would like to thank Adam Khan for his support to the team and wish him all the best for his career."
