Venezuelan just pips Villa, Pantano as pre-season skirmishes end.

Parente's Super Nova team-mate, Christian Bakkerud finally got some miles under his belt, after managing just one lap in each of the first day's sessions. Second time around, the Dane posted 70 laps and, despite still propping up the times before the midday break, finally moved up to a more respectable 18th in the faster afternoon session.

In all, the top 21 drivers were all within a second of Maldonado by the end of the day as three weeks of intense testing paved the way for the first of the season's races, in Barcelona, over 25-26 April. The next test will not now take place until the field returns to Paul Ricard on 10-11 June.
