Starting a distant 19th in Sunday's sprint, and with fewer laps to get into the top six scoring places, the Brazilian focused on the bonus point for fastest lap, but still made solid progress through the midfield. With Jerome d'Ambrosio starting from the pits, he was already up to 18th, and gained another three places on the start to sit in 15th by the first corner. He then passed Ho-Pin Tung later in the lap, overtook Diego Nunes a lap later for 13th. He gained another three places on lap four, when Milos Pavlovic spun, Sebastien Buemi pitted and Harald Schleghelmilch retired, before setting off in pursuit of ninth-placed Luca Filippi.
Although he passed the Italian on lap ten, he lost the position four laps later when he attempted to overtake Marcello Puglisi. However, by lap 18, he had cleared both opponents to take eighth position, but was unable to progress any further. However, his aim of taking the fastest lap was achieved with some strong laps in clear air in the closing stages.
"I made some good passes today and it was good to see we had the pace again, having recorded the fastest lap, but it's obviously disappointing not to have got more points out of this weekend as we have slipped a little in the championship," Senna reflected, "Our aim for the next event must be to score high to gain back some positions ahead of the final weekend in Dubai."
The Brazilian is now fourth in the championship, 17 points adrift of Grosjean, but only six shy of second-placed Vitaly Petrov with two rounds and four races to run.
