Italian back for another crack at championship - and believes he is well placed to challenge.

"The car is very good," he enthused on the eve of the 2008 championship opener in Barcelona, "It's completely different to what we had last year, and they've worked a lot on the aerodynamics and the suspension. We'll see how it goes but, apparently, they've managed better stability when turning into corners. You can turn much faster than with last year's model. They've also improved things for the fast areas, as the changes to the aerodynamics allow you to drive much faster."

Both Pantano and Villa have been consistently among the fastest at the different winter tests at Paul Ricard and Barcelona, placing Racing Engineering firmly among the main title contenders. Team boss d'Orleans-Borbon makes no secret of his intention that the Spanish operation should be fighting for both driver and team championships, especially as it boasts a strengthened squad, both in terms of drivers and technical personnel.

"We are ready," he said, "Let the season begin."
