The victory meant that Parente would have to start race two from eighth on the grid. but he was confident of adding to his tally until coming across Karun Chandhok's spun car part way around the opening lap of Sunday's sprint event. Dropping back to twelfth, he drove a steady race and picked off the cars immediately ahead of him to be running in seventh - one place out of the points - on the final lap. Although he then closed in on local favourite Javi Villa, however, the chequered flag came just too soon for the Portuguese ace, leaving him scoreless, but still leading the championship heading to Turkey in two weeks' time.
“I feel great!" he admitted, "Since Friday, things have gone great and the team did such a fantastic job.
"Maldonado had a bad start [in race one] and I had a lot of pressure from Bruno, but I kept focused. I could see him in my mirrors, but I pushed all race long. The team was very fast changing the tyres and I was back out again in pole, so I am very pleased.
“My start [in race two] was not too bad and I kept my position on the first four corners, but, a bit further on, I was touched by another car and then lost a few places as a car spun in front of me. I had to brake hard, which wasn't great because I had a flat spot on the front right and lost a bit of pace and traction.
"After the safety car went out, there was a bit of confusion and I managed to make up a few positions, so it was a real shame I didn't make it across the line in sixth as I was very close.”
