Up ahead, the two Piquet cars of Maldonado and Zuber repeatedly made contact, allowing the Spaniard to close right in on them and, following a brief safety car period six laps from the flag, a final collision between the two allowed Villa to take immediate advantage, passing Zuber and then diving inside Maldonado. The second Piquet car made contact with him, allowing Valsecchi to pass the Racing Engineering car, but Villa was still running in the points when the dust had settled.
"Today, everything went much better," the Spaniard commented, "I had a good start and the first laps of the race went well. We had a good rhythm throughout the entire race although, towards the end, I had a little contact with Maldonado, which made the last few laps a bit difficult. I think we all learned a lot this weekend with the new car and it will help us with the upcoming races."
Further up the road, the safety car period had also cost race leader Romain Grosjean and, when he was punished with a drive-through penalty, Pantano moved from fourth to third, completing the podium.
"We nearly did the job, and it's good for me and the team as we learned each from each other," the veteran surmised, "That's important as we will improve more than we did this weekend. I am sure, from next race on, we will fight for victory."
The team owner was also 'very happy' with the results.
"Both drivers did an excellent job today and third, both in the team and driver championship, I couldn't have asked for anything better," d'Orleans Borbón concluded, "Thanks to all the boys as they have worked hard to make this possible."
