The fates, however, had other ideas and conspired against him in the weekend's second race. Despite again setting good lap times when he had some clear air in front of him, putting himself in the middle of the battling Piquet Sports cars, it wasn't to last, as his engine gave up the ghost on the second lap.
"For sure, I am really disappointed," he sighed, "The car felt really good yesterday, and I could set some very good times, so I was sure that I could get some points today. I don't want to say where I could have finished, but Valsecchi was behind me and he ended up in fifth....
"I made a nice start and was able to overtake very easily. I had all the guys just in front of me in a row, and I was just about to go past Maldonado when a cylinder went, and it was immediately clear that there was nothing more for me today. I guess my usual Barcelona luck has struck again!"
While Filippi heads to Istanbul knowing that he took the pole there for Super Nova in 2007, potential title rival Chandhok can also take solace - he led in Turkey before being taken out by
Kazuki Nakajima - after a troubled Barcelona weekend.
Like Filippi, the Indian showed a good turn of pace, but couldn't find the luck he needed to open his account, finishing just out of the points in Saturday's feature race, and then being eliminated from Sunday's sprint after a number of collisions damaged his steering.
Mirroring Filippi's weekend, Chandhok also suffered a blow straight away, losing control of his iSport International car while running on a tricky full fuel tank and stiff suspension combination in Friday's free practice session. He was travelling at well over 180km/h in fifth gear when he went off into the tyrewall, but escaped unhurt and repaid the team's efforts in getting the car back in shape for qualifying, by taking seventh on the grid.
