Although he subsequently made sparkling progress from the back of the pack, passing cars as he matched the pace of leaders, further contact with Yelmer Buurman damaging his steering and forced him out of 15th place.

“What's so annoying is that I could have scored points in both races this weekend,” he sighed, "The past two days have been frustrating. The car has been quick, but I have come away with nothing to show for it.

"I spun on the opening lap because somebody hit me and then I was stuck in a gaggle of cars towards the tail of the field. I made up a few places, but some of the guys back there were fairly wild. I ended up bending a steering arm, so I dropped out with a couple of laps to go.

“On a more positive note, we tried something different on the car in the second race and it worked really well, so I can't wait until Istanbul. I led the race there last year and I really love the circuit. I think we're going to be even quicker there, and I'm determined to get some points on the board.”
