2007 race winner quickest again to send warning to rivals.

As is to be expected on such a tight track, there were a number of incidents as the drivers found - and exceeded - their limits. Campos team-mates Petrov and Ben Hanley both found the wall at Ste Devote, with the Briton stopping immediately. Jérôme d'Ambrosio returned to the pits minus his left rear wheel, while Zuber knocked Adam Carroll into the wall as he tried to overtake on the run down from Casino, knocking the Ulsterman's right front tyre off the rim in the process. Carroll duly ended the session at the foot of the times, with just nine laps to his credit.
