Bruno Senna was satisfied to settle for fifth place in the GP2 sprint race at Monaco as he sneaked into the lead of the championship for the first time.
Looking to build upon his first win of the season during the feature race, Senna got a good start from eighth on the grid to take advantage of Pastor Maldonado and Karun Chandhok's collision at the first corner, the Brazilian ending the lap sixth.
That became fifth when Adrian Valles was given a drive-through penalty, but while Senna spent much of the race harassing Roldan Rodriguez, he accepted that there was unlikely to be an easy route through.
With that in mind, Senna settled for the two points to move into a joint lead with Giorgio Pantano, although the Brazilian's second place in Spain means he is the effective leader.
“It was a fairly quiet afternoon, really, and there was nothing much I could do to make progress. I had a very good view of Roldan Rodriguez's gearbox for most of the race.
“I knew I was potentially faster, but everyone accepts it is almost impossible to overtake here and you mustn't allow frustration to get the better of you. I just settled down to do the best job I could and wait for others to make mistakes.”
Senna also took time to praise his iSport team, claiming the switch to the reigning champions is giving him the chance to mature as a driver. As such, he has high hopes or Magny-Cours.
“The team has done an absolutely great job preparing the car and they are really helping me to progress as a driver. Overall, this has been a good weekend and it gives us a good platform for the forthcoming races, starting at Magny-Cours next month. I'm already looking forward to that.”
