Romain Grosjean claims he is looking to cut out the rookie errors that have peppered his start to the GP2 Series season as the Frenchman prepares to compete on home soil at Magny-Cours.
The recently crowned GP2 Asia champion headed into the European season as many people's tip for the title with multiple champions ART Grand Prix, but has endured an inconsistent start to the year as he adapts to the new GP2/08 machine.
Indeed, while he can already call himself a winner after a dominant triumph at the Istanbul sprint race, a failure to score at Monaco and a controversial penalty at Barcelona when he was judged to have unfairly blocked Kamui Kobayashi, have kept him third in the standings.
Nonetheless, the Frenchman has high hopes for the remainder of the season as he seeks to match
Lewis Hamilton in taking the title on his first attempt.
“We should have won at Barcelona, but I made a mistake on the restart. It was a shame but it is something that I will have to learn,” he told
Crash.net Radio as he entertained the crowds at the Renault World Series meeting at
Silverstone.
“Turkey was a really good meeting for us though and Monaco was special too, even if I got caught out in an accident while I was running fourth. I have made a couple of rookie mistakes and now it is time to make sure I don't do it again.
Adding that he is pleased to have graduated to ART from their sister Formula 3 outfit ASM, Grosjean believes the easy transition has been a big factor in his ability to hit the ground running.
“I want to fight at the front of GP2, but there is plenty we still need to improve with the car and with my racing, but we can certainly win more races. It is good to step up in the same team. I knew the engineer, the mechanics and the team manager, so for me there was no adaptation time, which was great.”
