Two of the top ten qualifiers for Saturday's GP2 Series feature race at Magny-Cours were hit with penalties after the half-hour session on Friday but, again, neither will take the full extent of their punishment.
Sébastien Buemi and Kamui Kobayashi were both docked five places on their original grid slots - the Swiss for improving his lap time under the yellow flags covering poleman Bruno Senna's crash and Kobayashi for similarly not slowing under a caution - but the pair only drop from fifth and seventh to ninth and eleventh respectively as Buemi moves back up one spot following Kobayashi's demotion - and the DAMS driver likewise gains as the top ten reshuffles.
Alvaro Parente, who replicated Kobayashi's error, receives the full five-place punishment as he drops from an already disappointing 21st to the very back of the grid.
Chief beneficiaries of Buemi's
faux pas are series returnee Lucas di Grassi, who inherits fifth place and Vitaly Petrov, who moves into sixth, while Pastor Maldonado and Karun Chandhok both gain two places - to seventh and eighth respectively - as they also move ahead of Kobayashi.
Alberto Valerio, debutants Marko Asmer and Carlos Iaconelli, Javi Villa and the returning Michael Herck all move up at Parente's expense.
