Bruno Senna has taken his second consecutive GP2 Series pole position after two late yellow flags prevented anyone else from challenging him.
The Brazilian, who is currently second in the standings, scores two points for his efforts too and moves closer to championship leader Giorgio Pantano.
Looking to score a home pole position for the iSport International crew, Senna hit the top of the timesheets after around 15 minutes having spent much of the session disputing second place with Lucas di Grassi.
Nonetheless, Senna's effort of 1min 26.912secs was enough to put him ahead of practice pace setter Romain Grosjean and out of reach for the remainder of the session. Nonetheless, with the track conditions barely improving over the 30mins, Grosjean's early effort was still enough to secure a front row grid slot.
Indeed, any threat to Senna and Grosjean's positions in what is normally a frantic last couple of minutes was ended when Roldan Rodriguez suffered an off with two minutes remaining. Prompting yellow flags, some drivers stayed out on track for a final push but had their hopes ruined when Michael Herck spun at exactly the same point soon after.
It means Senna will start from pole position, ahead of Grosjean, with last year's winner Andreas Zuber and Lucas di Grassi filling the second row. Pantano remains a significant threat in fifth place, ahead of Luca Filippi, who produced his first top ten starting position of the season in sixth for ART Grand Prix.
Also celebrating his best-ever starting position in GP2 is Andy Soucek, who maintained his pace from free practice with seventh on the grid, alongside Mike Conway, who will be disappointed with eighth given his form around the circuit.
Kamui Kobayashi and Karun Chandhok rounded out the top ten in their respective DAMS and iSport machines, ahead of Pastor Maldonado, who ruined his chances of improving further with a spin in the latter stages. Magny-Cours winner Sebastien Buemi was 12th
