Wednesday, 17th September 2008

Andreas Zuber is looking to 'do a Pantano' and win the GP2 title at his fourth attempt in 2009.

Andreas Zuber is confident he will be back on the GP2 grid in 2009 for his fourth year in the series after concluding the 2008 season with ninth place overall in the standings.

Having switched from the champion iSport team to Piquet Sports this season, Zuber was instrumental in pushing the team back to the front of the grid alongside team-mate Pastor Maldonado.

However, while he qualified on the first three rows in eight out of ten races and managed four podium finishes, Zuber was unable to add to the wins he managed with Trident in 2006 and iSport in 2007.

Coupled to a series of failures to score – 14 in 20 races - Zuber eventually wound up a disappointing ninth overall, four places and 29 points behind less experienced team-mate Maldonado.

Still, Zuber's cause was barely aided by several unlucky retirements, particularly in the final round at Monza when he was swiped off the track by Javier Villa, while disqualification at Spa meant he didn't score in any of the last six races.

Nonetheless, Zuber is determined to follow in the footsteps of new GP2 champion Giorgio Pantano and record victory at his fourth attempt. While it remains to be seen whether he will stay with Piquet Sports, Zuber will be out in the car again as post-season testing gets underway next week.

“It has been an exciting season with a number of uncontrollable disappointments such as a disqualification. However, I am happy with all the podiums I've achieved. Next week I will test with different other GP2 teams for next season.”

In the meantime, Zuber will continue to drive in Superleague Formula racing for the Al Ain club.
