Daytona Prototype points leader SCOTT PRUETT thinks having a local driver co-driving with him will be more than helpful - it will be motivational. Pruett's co-driver for the season is Rojas of Mexico City, and Pruett said Rojas not only brings local track knowledge, he also has the added edge of being a home town favourite, which will give added incentive. Pruett won last year with local hero driver LUIS DIAZ, and the crowd went wild.
Cheever Racing has a new, sleek-looking DP - the #39 Crown Royal Fabcar-Porsche. This is the same chassis, which has been modified. DAVE KLYM, owner of Fabcar, said the modifications have been in the works since just before the Rolex 24 of
Daytona. The idea was to create a smaller profile in hopes the car would go faster. Drag cubes with speed. Among the changes are a smaller rear deck lid, greenhouse and windscreen. The car sits lower which makes it more aerodynamic. The roof is the same but somewhat modelled in.
The Fabcar crew worked long and hard to get the car ready for this race - its first time on the track. The car was being worked on almost up to the point when it left Saturday afternoon for Texas to join the convoy of race car transporters.
