Gidley was third fastest in the Cup car, behind DARREN LAW of Phoenix AZ in No.6 Zoom Motorsports Porsche 996, co-driven by MIKE McCALMONT of Canada. Law's fast time was 1:39.445/81.018 mph. JOEY HAND of Sacramento CA in #99 Under Armour BMW M3 for Anchor Racing was second fastest in Grand-Am Cup. Hand is filling in this weekend for BORIS SAID of Carlsbad CA, who is off racing with the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series at Talladega Superspeedway for the Aaron's 99 race. Hand co-drives with ANDERS HAINER of Hidden Hills CA. Said will start twelfth Sunday in #36 Centrix Chevrolet in the --- race. Forty-seven drivers attempted to qualify and Said, not a regular, made the field based on time, not on owner points or a provisional.

While many of the Daytona Prototypes turned faster times in the afternoon, it was the reverse for many of the 30 GT cars in the Rolex Series, turning faster times in the morning.

Fastest in the Grand American Rolex Series GT class were the drivers with the PTG BMW M3 team. First through fourth were: KELLY COLLINS/#17 F1 Air with a time of 1:33.3146/86.496 mph-his co-driver is veteran Trans-Am driver, R.J. VALENTINE; BILL AUBERLEN/#21 BMW Financial Services with co-driver JOEY HAND; IAN JAMES/#22 BMW Financial Services with co-driver CHRIS GLEASON; and fourth was TOM MILNER/No.16 F1 with co-driver JUSTIN MARKS.
