Also on the schedule this fine spring weekend are the Formula
BMW Series, now sanctioned by IMSA - a rival sports car sanctioning body; and the SCCA Pro Racing MazdaSpeed Miata Cup. The Formula BMW Series is truly a developmental training series - 16 of the 20 drivers are Rookies. The Mazda group is huge, with a field of 68 cars running the 2.238-mile, 11-turn road course.
Another unique addition to this weekend's events is the MarqueMADNESS Fueled by Shell V-Power. This is a gathering of sports car enthusiasts from all over the Western United States for their own set of activities, open to all marques. They started early, on Thursday with laps around the race track. They will have marque corrals, car shows, rallyes, autocrosses, hospitality, Funcours Show and Shine, etc. Sunday they will have parade laps around the course.
The weather was crisp, sunny and bright, with few clouds. In the afternoon a breeze picked up and the temperatures cooled a bit. A far cry from Thursday's weather which started out pouring. This mired some of the transporters. The weather cleared by Thursday afternoon but it was still overcast and cool. This made Friday's weather all the more welcome. Forecasts call for dry weather all weekend.
