SAMAX Motorsport has revealed that it will be absent from round nine of the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series this weekend, citing a 'lack of resources' as the reason for interrupting a solid season.
Despite taking a maiden victory at Laguna Seca with its #2 BMW-Riley, Peter Baron's Florida-based squad has chosen to skip the event at the picturesque Barber Motorsports Park and will take the time to 'reorganise' its on-track programme to finish the remaining five races 'with the best chance to win'.
Since we are not competing for the championship, it's more beneficial for us to take a weekend off and make sure our preparations are focused on the final races in order to build on our previous successes, Baron explained.
The team's decision is particularly disappointing for lead driver Ryan Dalziel, who led the #2 car to its Laguna Seca success after Baron rescued him from the dole queue following the loss of his Champ Car ride in 2007.
I'm obviously very disappointed to be missing out on competing at Barber on Sunday, the Scot commented, We've had a great run this season, capped by our first win together in May, but I totally respect Peter's decision with regards to missing this event.
"He's a good friend, and someone who's given me a great opportunity to compete here in North America, so I stand by him. I love racing at Barber Motorsports Park, so it'll be a bit frustrating to be there on Sunday watching from the sidelines, but I'm looking forward to being back in the car in Montreal at the start of August.
Dalziel confirmed that he plans to attend Sunday's Grand-Am event after a two-day trip to Mid-Ohio to check out round six of the American Le Mans Series.
