I just hope that the Ducati race crew cut and paste all these "joyous snippets of appreciation of Stoner's riding and racing ability" all over the pit walls so the crew can be "terrified of all the anti Ducati mob vitriol!!"

If the riders are able to devote all their energy into riding a bike that is "behaving itself", then there is less risk of the bike chucking the rider down the street.
Stoner has now a bike that is currently responding to all of HIS commands so he is able to ride it to its potential and he is able to try and find his full potential.
If therefore the bike is responding to his commands better than the other riders and their particular biles then he is able to keep out front.
Stoner and the Ducati plus the Bridgestone tyre are a "complete" package at the moment and he is able to practice or test a 'race pace" for a considerable number of laps. You develop a 'race" fitness.
By the looks of the comments, Stoner waited for a few laps to pass before moving. It appears that the Ducati is marginal on fuel economy so the strategy appears to be "hang in there, ride "quietly" and then apply all the pressure necessary to perform"
