His bike is up to beat factory machinery that is why Colin managed to put his M1 on the podium in France, I hope Yamaha can block the top 4 slots at Donington Park. A Podium is a realistic target for James that is potentially achievable.

George whoever you are

Dice killed off your qualifying tyre BS on the Toseland article, you seem to make it up as you go along, no website has stated that Vale did not use a qualifying tyre.

Now where did to get your Ducati 11kph faster down the staight from, the one that matters i.e. Casey's is only 5.6kph up on Vale and 6kph up on Jorge?

You also posted this on the Toseland article so I ask again where did you get that information regarding Rossi not putting a qualifying tyre in?

Coming back down to earth, both Casey and Vale will be up there when the lights go out and their Bridgestones warm up.
Fuel consumption will be a problem for the valve spring Tech 3 bikes so I hope that they can remain up at the sharp end.
As most of the Hondas are using the 2007 engines they will be in a similar position, how this race pans out will be interesting.

Wow a Yamaha 1,2&3 qualifying when was the last time that happened!!!!
I know Qatar is a strange race what with it being at night and tyre temps being a bit funny but I could not be happier.
If James and Colin had the same engine as Jorge, they could have qualified faster, roll on tomorrow. I know the Bridgestones will go better on race day, but if I was Casey I would be worried about this sworm of Yamahas around me.

I do not believe that Vale would honestly risk serious injury to himself by "doing something unexpected" and being taken out by Dani during qualifying for the first race of the season, Dani should engage his brain before his mouth.

I just hope all the Yamaha riders can maintain their qualifying pace then translate it into the race, Jorge has no fear, I am sure that Casey did not expect pressure from him so soon. James has been amazing on the valve spring 2007 spec engine, I am sure there are a few raised eyebrows over at Honda, having let him slip from their grasp and now see him become a protagonist. Colin seems to be having fun, now that the pressure of being on a full works bike is off of him. I just want Yamaha to have the minerals to give James and Colin the pneumatic-valve engines at Jerez, they are hampered by the low top speed of the old engine. Hopefully Vale is just finding his feet on the Bridgestones

Peter,

I am a Brit, a Yamaha fan and to me JT is doing the business, but this a forum not a fanzine for hero worship.
I believe he will go well at the tracks he knows, the rest will be a learning curve in his Rookie year, judging by how he is mixing it up, he will equate himself very well and do us proud in 2008 and give Jorge a run for his money!

Spin,

I agree with your comments in principle if TC is restricted specifically to prevent high sides that's cool on safety grounds, any other enhancements should be outlawed in my view to allow pure racing, but as a poster/punter I am not a graduate in electronics, so I do not know if this is feasible, I am sure there are good people out there who could clarify this burning issue.

Tech3 Yamaha newcomer James Toseland and his experienced American colleague Colin Edwards topped the timesheet four hours into the second groundbreaking night test in Qatar on Friday, both riders making good use of Michelin qualifying tyres to set their hot laps shortly before 9pm local time.
Toseland's best effort of 1'54.592 is just over four tenths quicker than Valentino Rossi's 2007 Grand Prix pole position time of 1'55.002, with the Englishman being the first to break the 1'55 barrier - under the Losail International circuit's newly installed floodlights.
Behind Toseland on the 9pm timesheet (local time) by a 0.872s margin was team-mate Edwards, while Casey Stoner (Ducati Marlboro), Randy de Puniet (LCR Honda) and Jorge Lorenzo (Fiat Yamaha) were also in the top five.
During the first half of the session the track temperature in the Qatar desert was recorded at 21ºC, while the ambient temperature was 16ºC – cooler than at most venues during normal daylight sessions during the Grand Prix season.
World Champion Stoner was the last out on the track at 7.40pm local time, setting a quick time on race tyres just three flying laps into his run, before Toseland later upped the pace with a qualifier.
Most riders are dedicating their efforts to tyre testing after quickly acclimatising to the unique riding conditions on Thursday night, and several teams aim to try full race simulations during the final three hours of 2008 preseason testing, in the remainder of the session.

Judging by the performance of JT and CE, it would make sense for Yamaha to start the season with 4 competitive pneumatic-valve engine M1's.
I look forward to several Yamaha 123's on the podium this season.

Tech 3 just need to sort out that paint scheme, all blue would be better than blue/yellow, the yellow is pants, better still, let them ride in the Yamaha corporate colours like the Works Team did in Valencia 2005.

I truly believe that Vale will be closer to Casey this year and Jorge also seems to be adjusting quite well to the Yamaha, so I hope that this line up of riders combined with the new bike will bring the title back where it belongs.
